Week 1 Menu

After binging on all kinds of sweets over Christmas, so much so that my midwife said my newfound Restless Legs are a result, I am committing to feeding this baby healthier food. Oh yah, and I'll need to be fit and nourished for that whole natural birth thing coming up in 61 days (WHAT IN THE WORLD!?!?!?).

So here's my menu for the week (Clockwise from Top Left):
- learn to make a REAL bone broth (not the same as the boxed stuff). This stuff not only is full of minerals (duh, from bones), but it's supposed to cure all sorts of ailments and be amazing for fertility/pregnancy/babies. I plan on drinking a cup a day.
-Paleo-friendly Shepherd's Pie w/cauliflower mash on top! A friend who is a midwife made this with beef, kale, corn, carrots, and onions.
- Sausage, butternut squash, and brussel sprout roast- need I say more? Yum!
- Kale Salad That Even Kids Will Like- or in my case, my husband will even like. I think it's delicious!
- Crustless Kale and Leek Quiche- making this minus the cheese (not Paleo) for breakfasts.
- DIY Ghee, the clarified butter, the magical Paleo-friendly fat for cooking.

Where's Your Home?

I first saw this print at my friend Tiffany's house and thought it was just SO adorable. When I first got married, my mom told me that my home wouldn't be a familiar city but would be wherever my husband was.
So sweet. And so true.
Especially during the year we were wanderlusting nomads.

You can get one here.

Where do you consider to be home?

Art Find

I recently discovered the work of Austin artist and central Texas native, Chuck Voelter from Austin blogger Adrienne Breaux.

His abstract work is linear, organic, and colorful.

Similar to her style of painting, don't you think?

Twombly at MOMA

Motherwell

I'm such a sucker for abstract expressionism. I favor works similar to those of Pollack, Koonig, Twombly, and Rothko.

Art Find (not etsy)

When they come out with ALL states, I would love to collect these amazing posters. Wouldn't it be fun to collect ones to commemorate each state you've visted? via.

The NYC Public Library digital galleries is another place to score some great art. Browse through their selection of book prints and click buy. Such a great idea! via.

I've been meaning to watch these first two movies... but I'm going to be honest with you- I am scared. I am nervous about how this will change the way I see food... and grocery stores and restaurants and food suppliers. I need to see it. Have any of you seen it? via.

You're SO Naive!

Just added this to my Amazon cue:

I have always LOVED illustrations and graphics from the '60's! This book is about the graphic design from the '40's to the '60's. The Amazon review describes the style that graphic designers are rediscovering as "stylistic" and reminiscent of "silkscreen, classic typography, hand lettering, woodcutting and folk art."

New designers are integrating styles from Saul Bass (famous for his film titles and logo design), Charley Haper (modernist graphic artist), and the fabulously talented Alexander Girard (textile designer who worked with the Eames' and George Nelsen). This "new" graphic style enlists the use of "earth and pastel shades, reduced strokes, patterns and shapes with a strong folkloristic element."

Doesn't this remind you of Sasek childrens' books? I'd love to tear out some pages and frame them for dining room art, or kid's room art, or any wall that needs some funky graphic illustrations!  I just adore this style! And I'm very excited to see how modern graphic artists and designers are taking inspiration from that beloved older style!

DIY Cubism

As you can tell, lately, I've been on a MASSIVE Apartment Therapy kick. Sorry for all the re-posts, those of you who are faithful AT readers, but I just can't help myself!

This canvas is covered in paint chips to make up Marilyn Monroe's famous visage.

This Abe Lincoln piece is a canvas with painted squares of varying colors of grey.

"The Lincoln portrait was done by pixelating a photo and boiling it down to 9 shades of gray (both done in Photoshop). I built the canvas, gridded it off in 2 inch squares, and mixed the different shades of paint. At that point it basically became a paint by number

Two Indulgences

Two things I really love: wine and coffee. I think I found this image on Design Sponge in a designer interview. I love this photo so much... I would love a huge print framed.

I wish I could remember where I found this image.....
