Earthy Hues and Neutral Spaces

Hello, I’m Joanna. I write for Arcadian Lighting, a go-to source on the web for lighting fixtures for every home.  I am crazy for my work. I get to spend my days searching online for the loveliest interior design images and ideas then share them on blogs such as Livable Machine Interiors. My own style is an eclectic mix of furnishings and colors. I can’t choose just one! Today, I bring you some of the most gorgeous earthen-hued spaces. Because they come from nature earthy hues can instill a sense of serenity and peace within us.



This serene nature-hued living room offers an inviting space to enjoy a conversation with a close friend or curl up with a good book.

This unusual and charming room is filled with earthy colors of browns, beiges and turquoise. The large windows bring nature inside adding an extra earthy element. The globe pendant light must shed a wonderful glow after dark.


An earthy palette is reminiscent of a crisp winter’s day with its grays and whites.


A window seat and low profile sofa get their own brush of earthy tones making the space warm and inviting.


Mossy green and weathered gray give this kitchen a touch of nature. I would love to have a window like the one pictured here in my own kitchen.


An aged décor is earthy yet elegant. Warm woods and creamy whites create a welcoming space.


A modern space is made inviting with its soft natural colors of warm wood, sage green and camel.

Dark and Moody

 Love some dark and moody interiors, don't you? This dark wallcovering makes a dramatic background. And check out that entry table- so unique!

This dining room is so fun! Love those vintage chairs, and that funky light fixture! I would add more art, though.

I still love the idea of crazy wallpaper in a powder bath. Where else can you get away with that much pattern?!

The chandelier in here is so great. And so is that big teak coffee table! 

I just love this photo- masculine and vintage.

The marble fireplace surround works so well with all these funky pieces. What a fun home! Rue Magazine did it again. Love it.

Happy New Year... 2 weeks in...

I've got organization and decorating on the brain, big time right now. Big time. We are working on finding a new place to live, and I get a little excited with all the possibilities of new decorating schemes. I found all these unrelated, but lovely images on my desktop (I'm an image hoarder, what can I say) while I was organizing files on my computer (again, organization bug is hitting me big time). So here's some of my favorite eye candy.

Common denominator: grey walls & bright white walls, black and white, graphic patterns, rustic metal pieces, art, leather, textured fabrics, these are a few of my favorite things.

You might be wondering why I included some outdoor summery looking photos... that's because in Texas, our winters are actually quite beautiful. Especially near the gulf, our winters can even bring mild weather, perfect for finding a spot on a patio to relax. 

Also, sort of befitting this style is the wool floppy hat. I bought one. Now working on styling it with the rest of my clothes.... here are inspirations:

Tomorrow is my half marathon, folks. Tomorrow. I am giddy. At least that's what I tell myself when I start to feel terrified. I say, "self, that's just excitement." Hoping that works.

Laziness

Pinterest has taken all of my blogging time. I'm newly obsessed with pinning all the cool things I see online to my Pinterest (check mine out!), rather than blogging about them. Sorry, y'all. Bad, blogger, bad! I hope you forgive me.

My guy and I have been rethinking the old apartment. It's ridiculously tiny, but we are perhaps thinking we could make it a small/cool space, a la Apartment Therapy. 

Have a peek at fellow Houstonian and the most recent small/cool award winner's space. It's rad, I know you'll love it (It's all about good bones, I tell ya!).

Green + Gold = Grold?

Just a little eye candy for your Friday. :)

 I love everything about this photo: the stripes on the wood floors, that rattan chair, the ceiling beams, those cool blue chairs, that INCREDIBLE chandelier... oh and you KNOW I love that green/gold (let's call it "grold") tufted sofa with the MCM vibe. Sigh. So great. I think rooms like this feel comfortable and inviting but still have a stylish, pulled-together look. Nothing is matchy-matchy, yet everything works together.

(Doesn't hurt that the home has great bones- check out those arches!)

I think the symmetry of the space plan- two armoires flanking the window, the seating arrangement, the 2 stools by the fireplace- rein in those casual, eclectic furniture pieces into a formal arrangement. What a great balance!

Those 2 rugs anchor each area into its own little spot. And the green plants add life and a welcome splash of color!

Well done, Nate, well done!

Sovereign Design

Check out this amazing condo model, Sovereign, designed by Atlanta designer Lee Kleinhelter (all images courtesy of Lonny mag).

Everything is so textural and neutral, but with strategically placed pops of orange and blue. I love that graphic black and white striped wall the best, I think.

Do you like this style? It communicates calm and casual vibes to me.
