Monday Inspiration: Today, known as Design Brain Jumble

Today, I am moving us. 

We are temporarily going to be living in this darling old little house, with glass door knobs, hex tile (yes, HEX!), and old squeaky wooden floors. I'm running around, organizing and cleaning today, but didn't want to forget about you, my blog friends. After all, it is Monday... a day requiring pretty inspiration (as well as copious amounts of coffee).

 Love this beautiful kitchen renovation, as seen on Design*Sponge- navy lowers, DIY concrete countertops, and open shelving. I hope you also noticed the chartreuse pottery accents. So lovely.

 I adore this bathroom, with walls entirely covered in aqua mosaic tiles! 

What a great idea for a wall or space divider! Kind of industrial but organic, if that's even a possible combination. via.

On a completely different note, how cool is this sliding door detail!?  I have a thing for sliding doors and barn doors.

 I know I've been MIA lately... so sorry. For a while I was sick, which threw me out of the whole swing of things! I'm sure most of you have seen this home tour. If not, you must. I LOVE this purple room, wood accents, and grey sofa. The whole tour is fabulous.

I am Southern

 I like being a Southern girl. I loved growing up in the South. I love Southern cooking (and baking!). I love friendly Southern people. As far away as I've traveled from my home sweet home of Texas, I still have a true Southern girl living inside me who likes to eat Tex-Mex, chicken fried steak with fried okra, and pralines. I digress...

Dreamy Kitchens

I like to bake. And I'm good at it. Does this make me sound conceited? No really, in one of my college art classes, we had an performance art assignment and I made my favorite chocolate chip cookies as my "piece." Ha ha! Anyway, I've really been wanting to putter around in the kitchen lately, trying out new recipes (hence the glut of recipes I've been posting) so I guess that's why all these kitchen images are speaking to me...

First, a DIY glass etching tutorial from Martha Stuart (via Simplified Bee). If you couldn't find a set of old-school vintage jars, maybe these or these would work.

So back to kitchen organization....

I like the pegboards, baskets, and jars- everything looks so contained!

Would you be inspired to cook or bake more if your kitchen was clean, lovely, and organized?

Black and White and Old

 I love this room. The black cabinets are gorgeous, especially as the back drop to the worn leather seating, metal legged tables, and unexpected Persian rug. I also adore the stacks of books across the entire window sill/bump out. The hodge-podge collection of chairs is charming too.

I love Interior Design Magazine. Although mostly displaying projects by large commercial firms, it does feature the best of the best. And the Annual Best of Year issue is my favorite. Check out my favorite images from Best of 2009.

Stripes on the Floor

This is one of my favorite images right now. The colors are neutral, the materials are masculine, and the bold stripe pattern is the focal point. I love it. I think I'm gravitating towards stripes, zigzags, and chevron patterns as floor coverings:

A trip down Wisteria lane... or memory lane?

I used to get Wisteria catalogs while I was in design school. Maybe I hadn't developed enough taste of something, because I remember mentally writing them off as "too country." As I was leafing through my mother-in-law's stack of catalogs, I came across the most recent Wisteria and was blown away! I absolutely LOVE this vintage/weathered/old-but-new style! The first image of the bedroom is my favorite.
