Sweet Sleep

So I'm on the hunt for a bed and some new fabulous bedding. But I am a little bit all over the place with style ideas. Here are a few pretties I've been staring at lately.

I would have such sweet dreams in this California desert bedding.
(I think this one's my favorite right now)

This feels like waking up in a garden.

Peacock blue walls with a nailhead trimmed headboard are the perfect background for this grey and cream chevron bedding. Love it. I'd do a more antique-y bedside table and one big piece of art over the bed, if it were my room.

This one looks feminine, dramatic, but super cuddley and comfortable.
The velvet headboards against those dark walls is so striking!

This tangerine and coral color combination on white bead board walls is so fresh and the headboard and duvet are a bit preppy. I like how they added that great piece of art and those vintage brass fixtures for a little more personality.

I know I've posted this room before but it's just so unique I have to post it again. I LOVE that David Hicks La Fiorentina fabric on the bedskirt and canopy! But I also love the grasscloth wallpaper, cowhide rug, and modern art. Putting a desk on one side of the bed instead of a matching nightstand is a great change too. Personally, I'm not wild about poster beds, so I'd modify with a cool wooden or simple upholstered headboard.

Pyerps

My favorite color has been purple for a long time, but I never tend to use a lot of it in interiors. And the whole contrasting color scheme thing usually isn't my favorite way to do an interior space, but Mancuso Warner Miller did a great job with using purple and yellow, contrasting colors, both in bright intensities, and making it pop.

I do like the use of symmetry in the space. I think it grounds all the bright colors and gives a sense of order to a space that could feel a little "too." The pairs of matching chairs, pillows, mirrors and console, lamps, and even the valances are all very balanced feeling.

Love this styling: bowls, geodes, and lucite.

I usually discourage placing furniture in front of windows, but this chaise fits there so cleverly!

Great little console/desk and love that pop of sunshine yellow!

Really cool sofa table. Anyone know where that's from?

This might be my favorite view: that artwork and that buffet are wonderful!

Really, such a great space!

What's your take on contrasting colors as a color scheme?

Words to Live by

Tumblr, via.

OMG, could anything be more perfect? I think I need to frame this and look at it every day for a morning mantra or something. I love Scripture and wise quotes, but sometimes something so simple can be so impacting.

Don't you think?

Strong and Happy Girls

"I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles." — Audrey Hepburn

I love that! Inspirational quote lead to an inspirational room design:

Easy Breezy

I promise to blog about something other than home tours soon. I guess I've just been super inspired by lots of blogs and mags lately. I hope you don't mind my sharing. :)

I've really been thinking about the whole "bloom where you're planted" thing and the genius behind Apartment Therapy that "nothing you do for your home is ever wasted." I've been re-inspired to work on our temporary little apartment and really make it something functional and something we love.

Home tours like this one from Design*Sponge, really get my creative juices flowing.

I like how the slouchy linen slipcovers protect the furniture and also lend a casual feel to the space.

Everything about this home in Madrid is so easy, breezy, and do-it-yourself. I love it.

Inspiration: Living is Never Temporary

Inspiration comes in a variety of avenues for me.
There are seasons when I feel every sense literally bombarded with it and there are seasons (like recently) when inspiration runs a little dry. This blog post by Holly Mathis (I just discovered her blog) is so incredibly inspirational to me. It reminds me why I love interiors, especially residential interiors and why it IS important to make your nest a pleasant place to live.

Here is my favorite excerpt from the post:
"Living is Never Temporary. Even if you are renting and in a place for a short time, it is still great to do things to make the space feel like home.  It can be depressing to “put your life on hold” for a year. Instead I suggest unpacking your books, sewing some drapes out of inexpensive fabric and getting on with living, whether is a temporary address or not..... Because that is why we decorate, not to impress others or keep up with trends but to inspire and nurture ourselves and our families.  To live with joy."

I am so inspired. I hope you are too. :)

Monday Inspiration

So what? I'm posting this on Tuesday!

I really need to get a haircut/hair color. I mean bad. I just had my 25th birthday and spotted a brand new patch of greys.
yes. truth. new greys....
*BIG SIGH*
Really like this photo of an old school barber shop. Do they make those anymore?

I know Valentine's Day is coming up soon, but me and my man just aren't super into the mushy-gushiness of it all. We're kind of crowd-avoiders so we've been known to celebrate by buying chocolate and port wine and spending an evening in. I'm never opposed to gifts- for any occasion- and I think these mugs are the cutest for a non-gushy Valentine's Day gift.
You can buy them here.

I want to take a long hot bubble bath in this chic bathroom. The bathtub is centered as the focal point, as it should be. The best part is the frosted glass doors that slide to separate the bathroom from the bedroom. The only thing I would add is a fantastic yet rustic chandelier.

I'm in the mood for driving around in a cute moped. We keep thinking about getting one for our second mode of transportation and the recent lovely weather is making it seem like the perfect idea. It's been chilly and windy and sunny which makes me want to go fast and feel the wind in my hair! This picture reminds me a little of our vacation in San Miguel de Allende. We drove four-wheelers around all over the place (not as glam, I know, but so fun!). It's completely the norm there. You drive your four wheeler down the cobble stone streets to the market, zooming past the lovely architecture and friendly people. Can't wait to post about that trip.

Sigh. So, that's your dose of Inspiration. Take some with a large glass of water (or pinot noir, whatever suits your fancy) and call me in the morning. The week is underway! :)

OH Domino

I do miss Domino Magazine. I remember buying the first copy with Ruthie Sommers on it when I was a brand new design student. I remember seeing that magazine at B&N and thinking, hmm this looks like a really cool magazine- not too decoratory, not too architectural, and enough story in each article to keep it interesting. And boy, was I right! I bought every single copy of Domino until they folded in 2008 (thanks alot, economy). I LOVE this sofa.

I recently learned that this Lee Jofa upholstery fabric is newly available again (via)! Maybe I need a vintage craigslist sofa to upholster in this gorgeous fabric, complete with a tangerine colored throw pillow as an homage to Domino. Yes, I think I do. Look for a mood board inspired by this photo... coming soon.

A trip down Wisteria lane... or memory lane?

I used to get Wisteria catalogs while I was in design school. Maybe I hadn't developed enough taste of something, because I remember mentally writing them off as "too country." As I was leafing through my mother-in-law's stack of catalogs, I came across the most recent Wisteria and was blown away! I absolutely LOVE this vintage/weathered/old-but-new style! The first image of the bedroom is my favorite.
