V-day
Oh... Valentine's Day....
Another holiday to get hyped about.
I love my husband a lot, but we don't really need another day to celebrate. Our big romantic holiday is our anniversary. And we always do nice things for eachother on birthdays. So we're kind of not that into Valentine's Day (although, our first Valentine's Day, he did teach me to shoot a glock, but that's another story).
Oh look! A tangent!
Anyway... the point of my post is to talk about what I LIKE about Valentine's Day. And that is the candy- both eye candy and real chocolate candy. Here's the eye candy:
(this room always makes me think Valentine's Day. Oh yeah, remember when I met Miles? Yeah, just reminding you.... hope that makes me cooler.)

Pyerps
My favorite color has been purple for a long time, but I never tend to use a lot of it in interiors. And the whole contrasting color scheme thing usually isn't my favorite way to do an interior space, but Mancuso Warner Miller did a great job with using purple and yellow, contrasting colors, both in bright intensities, and making it pop.
I do like the use of symmetry in the space. I think it grounds all the bright colors and gives a sense of order to a space that could feel a little "too." The pairs of matching chairs, pillows, mirrors and console, lamps, and even the valances are all very balanced feeling.
Love this styling: bowls, geodes, and lucite.
I usually discourage placing furniture in front of windows, but this chaise fits there so cleverly!
Great little console/desk and love that pop of sunshine yellow!
Really cool sofa table. Anyone know where that's from?
This might be my favorite view: that artwork and that buffet are wonderful!
Really, such a great space!

Je T'aime Paris....
This Parisian home is right up my ally- plenty of color, vintage furniture, and an incredible view of my favorite city. Yes, thank you, I'll move right in!

What great colors on that shelving unit! And I love that tufted grey banquette seating paired with the natural wood table and chairs. And what cool pendant lights!
Such great wallpaper. With this paper and the big library downstairs, I think it's safe to say the people who live here are bibliophiles.
I do NOT hate this view.

2011 Color Forecast

oooh I love color forecasts!
Pantone's color forecast prediction for 2011 is Honeysuckle. While I do love a good pop of pink, I'm much more excited to see the use of golds, greys (that trend isn't going away anytime soon), and aqua!

Swimming in an ocean...
I think I'm love with blue right now.
That dress is perfect for a holiday party! I found it when googling "ocean blue draperies," ha ha. I guess ocean blue and draping were key words?
Also, I did this blue velvet sofa with citrine pillows and zebra run (and IS THAT A MARBLE OR MALECHITE TABLE?!?!?!) from Nick Olsen's blog.
Such a royal color, that blue, don't you think?

Come to the dark side
With all the white interiors that seem to be so in vogue right now, it's nice to see some interior images utilizing the ultimate contrast color: black.
Martha Stewart certainly is heading to the dark side. Check out this beautiful image from MSL-some of the bedding is from my fave, DwellStudio.
Serena and Lily is emphasizing pops of black lacquer, an idea that I love to deepen calm color palettes. I especially love that piece of art with the script-y, scribbly-looking writing- a small bit of black and white. Makes me think of this rug that I have always loved from Ballard Designs:
I am NOT sick of chalkboard paint yet. And I think this bathroom door in an all white bathroom is a great application! How cute!
This black stained entry way cabinet draws the eye all the way down the hall. I love the rattan and chrome chair and the cow hide rug with it to warm it up. Love it!
I guess I'm a black and white graphic kind of girl because I adore this living/dining photo with the zebra print ottoman and the pair of black shaded lamps. Such a great addition to the other wise, brown-cream-orange color scheme. Black just adds a little bit of edge to things, I think.

This is definitely more than just a pop of black, but the pair of upholstered twin beds in black looks grey with the dark grey and white room.
Even outdoor living space can benefit from a bit of black! Look at these black stained planters, a DIY from DoorSixteen, a blog I just found.
Black is the new black. Add a little to your space and see what it does for you.
