Two of my greatest loves

Oh! I mean, besides my husband... and stuff.

I'm in love with westies. If you know me, you know that (I think next year is the year I finally get one! Right, husband???). But put a westie on a classic, oooh ooh, better yet, a MCM piece of furniture and I'm swooning.

Flicker. This one needs his hairs cute. ;)

Flicker. OK, this isn't MCM, but the colors are great!
Sigh.... I need one. Don't I?

xoxo,

PS- does it make me a weirdo to google "westies in eames?" I don't think so. But seriously, if you ever come across a picture of a westie IN an eames (or bertoia, or other iconic MCM piece), I expect you to email it to me. Seriously.

Words to Live by

Tumblr, via.

OMG, could anything be more perfect? I think I need to frame this and look at it every day for a morning mantra or something. I love Scripture and wise quotes, but sometimes something so simple can be so impacting.

Don't you think?

Home tour

Did you guys see this home tour in Rue? I've always loved the Aldrige's interior decor style, but their newest re-do is breath-taking. Simply breath-taking. Prepare to drool:

It's dark, moody, luxe, and layered with collected pieces from foreign places.

I'm so in love with the living space. The low lighting, the use of texture, and the neutral but rich color palette. yum.

Don't you want to move in? I would... if it wasn't Dallas. ;)

P.S. my obnoxious post about menu/shopping yesterday actually proved quite productive. See the fruit of my labor: tequila chicken, green onion slaw, and pappasito's black beans. nom nom nom. so good.
sidenote: please disregard the lone Ibuprofen sitting inside a key chain. This I know: composing photos is not my strength- HA!

Monday Inspiration: Meal Planning

Happy Monday! Sunday and Monday are my weekend days now. So today is errand day, which I really do like!
Putting my big girl pants on today and going out to grocery shop, with my week's menu and grocery list in hand, aren't you proud? I knew you would be. That's why I'm going to share it with you:

-Tequila Chicken, Green Onion Slaw, + Pappasito's Black Beans (secret recipe from my friend Jenn)

- Cobb Salad and Black Bean Brownies (they're HEALTHY!!!!)

- Breakfast for Dinner Casserole

- Chicken Salad on green spinach salad (I'm modifying this recipe)

-Mama's meatloaf, sauteed green beans, and baked sweet potatoes
(meatloaf: 2lb ground beef, 16 oz. tomato paste, egg, onion, bell pepper, garlic, 3/4c rolled oats, s+p. Bake at 350 for 1 1/2 hours)

-Broccoli Slaw Salad- chopped broccoli, julienned cucumber, chopped tomatoes, diced red onions, chopped green onions, minced garlic. Dressing: cucumber, celery, handful of cilantro blended.

I'll be attempting my making my own mayo too, so cross your fingers for me!!!!

Thinking about food, here are some lovely dining rooms:

Metal Chair Love

I think I have a problem, you guys...

Metal Chair Love

It's time to admit it to myself as well as to you: I might have an obsession with metal chairs.

Seriously. I would collect ALL of these chairs and not think a second about it (I have the urban outfitter one- middle right). But the design sense in me says to balance the elements. For example, if you have metal, add some wood and upholstery pieces. Insert some leather or linen or velvet for a nice contrasting texture.

Wisteria does it so well:
See? Metal side chair (and coffee table) with wood frame settee and linen upholstered arm chairs and wooden side tables. There's a sea grass rug on top of wood floors and a sparkley mirror on the wall. This is a great example of mixing finishes. Check out the pieces here.

This one is great too: metal chair, wood top coffee table with metal legs, metal lamp. THEN add upholstered seating, and some rustic wooden pieces and some pillows in linen and velvet. YUM!

I promise I don't work for Wisteria. They just had some primo examples of textile mix I wanted to show you.

If I didn't care about the finished room, I would seriously just buy a million metal chairs and probably show up on the next episode of hoarders.

My Bday Post

So... yesterday was my birthday....

I turned 26. I know that's still young, but I had trouble coming to grips with it the weeks preceeding- don't roll your eyes. I guess because 25 that"get my sh&t together age" I had in mind. I figured I'd have my life figured out by then- ha!

aging can be glamorous?

What I am learning as a new 26-year-old is that life isn't about accomplishing. It's not about dreaming up dreams and then doing them. It's about following life wherever God leads you and being content and grateful and completely present in the daily moments along the way. Sigh.

So my birthday was good.
My husband completely spoiled me- lunch, shopping, and a surprise dinner with friends.

Andrea Lee Photography.
What kind of gifts did I get for my birthday, you ask? Among stemless wine glasses, a case of my favorite wine, new magazine subscriptions (ahem: newly revamped Veranda and the modern gem Dwell), jeggings (don't judge me), gift cards, etc, both moms (mom and mom-in-law) generous gave me fun shopping money. On the shopping list:

heart rate monitor
TGI curl rod (psst, get yours from Brandi)

Thank you to my wonderful friends and family for spoiling me so well. You really know how to make a girl feel special and loved- even when she was feeling a little down. I love you all. :)

2011 Color Forecast

source.

oooh I love color forecasts!

Pantone's color forecast prediction for 2011 is Honeysuckle. While I do love a good pop of pink, I'm much more excited to see the use of golds, greys (that trend isn't going away anytime soon), and aqua!

Here are some great uses of those colors:

Which colors are you most looking forward to seeing in 2011 interiors?

What's open in my firefox tabs?

I know that's your burning question. ;)

Seriously, are y'all bad about leaving 74359 tabs open in your internet browser like I am? Geez. No wonder my Mac Book gets mad at me and crashes. When I come across something super cool on the interwebs, I leave it open in a tab so I will come back to it. Oh yeah, then I don't. Not helpful. I just scrolled back to the first tab open in my firefox window- it's from a month ago, no lie. Which makes me think, hmmm I bet my million followers in blogland (hi mom!) would like to know what I deem as "cool." Ha! It's your lucky day:

  • This music blog is cool. I happen to know one of the contributing writers, Melissa, so I can vouch for her coolness and dig her taste in music. MAKE ME LISTEN TO COOL MUSIC is another resolution I need to add to this year's list! (I get so lazy w/music... I blame you, Pandora).
  • These pictures of Jora's little girls having tea makes me hurt it's so cute! I so want to have daughters one day! Oh and yeah, her house (which I blogged about before) is pretty much my dream house. I think her life in general is super dreamy, see evidence here and here.
  • Husband is getting himself a new pair of shoes- Toms. I've been on the fence about them for myself. I've been eyeing the grey ones. That is, until I saw how cute blogger from Backwoods Fern is in her red pair. I never wear red, but I like the ruby slipper effect these have. I'm tempted....
  • I want to marble something....
  • Trying out some of these workouts. I really like her workouts, but wish she'd put a bigger shirt on....

  • This house in NW Houston is quite the odd one. Priced so well and does have lots of potential. Someone buy it so I can help re-do it, please.
  • Also, beginning a project 365 like my dear friend Liz. Request to be my Flickr friend and you can check out my daily progress (fingers crossed).

What interesting tabs do you have open? Share, please!

In the year 2000.... and 11.

Happy New Year! 1/1/11

Hope yours was lovely. Ours was very low key. After visiting ALL our family for Christmas, we decided to stay in for NYE after a delicious Italian dinner and incredible shiraz. So relaxing. Great time visiting with my inlaws as well.

So... the question everyone dreads this time of year: What are your New Year's Resolutions?

Oh my gosh, I have NOT had two seconds to myself to even begin to think about resolutions or things to do this year. What I DO know is that God tends to laugh at my overly specific resolutions so it's best for me to keep them rather broad and generic (ie, health/fitness, craft stuff, etc). Goals pertaining to my life, age, and career are so not in my hands that it's best for me not to even make them lest I become disappointed when God leads me elsewhere.

Here are the resolutions of things I would like to do in 2011 (that I've thought of SO FAR...):

1. Run a Half Marathon. Since the Rock and Roll half didn't pan out for me in 2010, hopefully I can make a half happen this year! Also, get back in the swing of exercising every day- that makes me feel so good!

2. Work on getting my immune system rebooted to 100%! I started working on it by doing a raw food cleanse this fall, but I would really like to keep going just with a more balanced (ie, do-able) approach.

3. Practice being content- my constant battle. Find peace in being happy with what I have, where I am, and who I am instead of always striving for more.

4. Appreciate the people I love better. My husband, my family, my friends- they are so important to me. I want to become better at showing it.

5. Try to do things that make me scared.

What else should I add?

And what are YOUR resolutions?
